How did you get into financial services?
When I was in college, I majored in Spanish and minored in Business. I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do. My father, Paul Durbin, invited me to join him at Durbin Financial Advisors, his wealth management firm. He said that even if it didn’t turn into a career, it would still be good to learn some basic financial planning concepts for myself. I ended up staying for seven years.
What makes a good financial planner?
A good financial planner doesn’t show up at the first meeting with preconceived notions about what that client’s needs are.
Another trait of a good planner is the ability to communicate well and avoid industry jargon when speaking with clients.
What’s your favorite part of your job?
My favorite parts of the job are the relationships I develop with clients over time, and knowing that I’m making a difference in their lives.
